FEELS LIKE HOME TO ME: January 2010

I told you in a post last week that Drew and I had a quick trip planned to the beach. We went and made it home safely. It was nice to be out of town and do something different. We admitted we were weak because we referred to Libby and all the cute things she does at least five times-a-day. To be fair, she is our main source of entertainment. We aren't used to just sitting still, sleeping in and doing whatever we want. Our parents each took a night keeping her, so I'm confident Libby wasn't wondering what we were doing, she was too busy ruling the roost at the Parkman's and the Raiford's.

It rained the the entire drive down to Florida and was pretty chilly. It was suppose to be dry and warmer Sunday. It didn't rain, but it was windy and cold. Not even the Canadians ventured out in these winds. Check out these waves.

Good thing Sunday was our shopping day! I'm proud to say that we did our part to boost the economy in the city of Destin. You're welcome.

Libby scored a few things. Since she just had a very fruitful Christmas, I only picked up things for her that were super deals - like these little rugby sweaters, $4.99 each.

Drew racked up as well. He bought lots of lures and fishing things (?) at Bass Pro Shop and Half Hitch Tackle. He also purchased some new sunglasses with his Christmas money.

I picked up a few clothing items throughout the day, but my main purchase was this lovely purse! She's such a beauty! I've been looking for several months for just the right bag and I am so happy I finally found it.

And just when I thought I was finished shopping, I found this cute bag. I almost didn't get it since I'd just purchase the other bag, but it was a great deal and will be cute to wear this summer. Did I mention that I love spending Christmas money? Well, I do.

We enjoyed the rest of our trip. We ate at The Back Porch and enjoyed having no agenda. It was picture perfect weather Monday, so I walked a few miles on the beach before we packed up and headed home. Being on the coast really made me anxious for spring. I can't wait to do it again, with Libby in tow, and hit the beach and enjoy playing in the sand! Just a few more months and we can plan our next trip!

Around the Blog

Have you noticed anything new? I've been playing with the blog and having some success. Notice the new font? Thanks to Jessica over at Taylor Plus Triplets, I've discovered a site with tips on doing cool stuff with you blog. But let me warn you, what some might call "easy" is far from it. I'm talking rewriting HTML code, whew. I have also figured out how to post my pictures much larger than the standard settings, so I'm very excited about that. I'll keep tinkering and maybe you'll see other cool features on the blog.

This week has been pretty typical - work, playing with Libby and looking forward to the weekend. In other news, I've been totally annoyed with health care services in general. I've been trying for weeks to get an H1N1 shot for Libby. She goes to daycare and I've decided that she needs to be protected. Too bad it's not that easy. Her pediatrician hasn't had the shot or they are out of it and waiting on more doses every time I call. I've tried Walgreen's - you have to be at least nine years old to get vaccinated in their stores. My last attempt? The county health department. Anything to protect my child, right? Unfortunately, that was a bust. My mother (an awesome team player!) came and got Libby yesterday morning. She arrived to the flu shot clinic that runs everyday from 9 to 10 am a little before 9 am. At l0:25 am she and Libby still had not been seen and Libby was crawling on all the ICKY furniture and about at her wits end. Mimi waved the white flag and left - no H1N1 shot and now both had been exposed to a room full of sick people, nice. I called the health department back, asked for a manager and actually got a nice lady. Her advice was to try again, but they couldn't tell me how long it would take since we were walk ins - but they don't make appointments for the shot. Oy! So if you have any advice, I'm all ears.

In news with less red tape, Drew and I are planning a get away this weekend. I'm really, really excited! We are going to escape to PCB.

I know it will most likely be too cold to lay out on the beach, but I am planning to work in some walks and enjoy just being there. We also plan to do some shopping. When Drew makes his "I don't like shopping" face, I remind him that he will be dropping me off at the Silver Sands Outlet Stores and he will get man time at Bass Pro Shop. Fair trade, right?

Whoa, what just happened here?

It's 2010, it's January and I'm back at work. Wait, wasn't I just rushing around trying to finish my Christmas shopping? Yes, it all flew by too quickly. But it was a wonderfully full Christmas season and we had a great time. I was off work for two weeks - and I loved it! So now it's back to reality, oy! However, I'm excited to share this post with you. Libby had a such a great Christmas and I'm excited to relive it here on the blog.

If you've read this blog even just once, then you weren't worried that Libby would go without this year! Boy did she rack up. In fact, I'm contemplating renting a PODS trailer and parking it in my front yard for extra storage! Okay, not really, but I've seen it done and it makes me laugh.

Christmas Eve we attended a candlelight service with my parents, ate dinner and opened presents with Mimi and Papa. Libby quickly bonded with this cute pug puppy. Once she confirmed it was not a real dog, she was smitten!

The next morning began round two of presents. Both sets of grandparents were up early and came to eat breakfast and see what Libby got from Santa/us.

After that, we grabbed showers and headed to Parkmanville for lunch with the extended Parkman family. The food was great and Libby got more presents...gesh!

Then we pressed on for another hour and opened presents at David and Nona's house. Libby got lots of cute clothes, some toys that make noise (thanks, Angie and Tripp) and a baby doll stroller.

And just when you thought my child could not stand one more present...well, yeah, you guessed it, she got more. If you can't tell, the Parkmans promote loving John Deere at a young age. Libby got her very own motorized Gator. Wow!

She loved it....

Then it was all too much! Needless to say she quickly aborted driving and took a long nap!

It was a long day-and-a-half, but it was lots of fun! We were all showered with wonderful presents and have so much to be thankful for. We also purged a lot of baby clothes and toys to make room for the new. I think I need a vacation after my vacation. ;)

And if you were curious, the new swing set is still a big hit. We played on it several times over the holiday. It's been FREEZING the last few days, but when the temps crawl out of the 30's, we plan to venture out in the back yard again.

Also over the break, my friend, Kathryn, came and visited. Libby entertained her greatly - at least that's what I'm telling myself - and we loved having her! She also got to experience the swing set. Libby dubbed her "KK" and she thoroughly enjoyed their time together! I did, too! Maybe we'll make a trip to Birmingham to visit soon.

Thanks to everyone that helped us have a very happy, very merry Christmas and New Year! Once again I pray that God will continue to bless my family and friends in 2010!
