FEELS LIKE HOME TO ME: June 2012

Three weeks

Georgia Kate is three weeks old. And what a wild three weeks it's been...whew! We've continued to stay busy, stay tired and stay in one piece.

We've done lots of things, but some tasks have been totally overlooked in all the madness. For example, Libby needs a haircut in the worst way. However, she told me she didn't want to cut it. Know why? Because her hair is long enough for a pony tail. Pretty cute!

She was pretty proud of her 'do. But she announced as I was trying to detangle her hair the other night, "Ouch! It's time for a haircut!" So hopefully we'll tackle that task this week.

Georgia Kate's great aunt and uncle stopped by last weekend. Her Uncle Warren scooped her up and was so proud!

Libby still loves Georgia Kate, too! At least once a day she asks to hold the baby. I am just excited that she hasn't asked to return her baby sister yet! ;)

Miss Georgia Kate got her first bath last week. To our surprise she didn't cry. She just looked around and wondered what we were doing.

And Libby didn't miss any opportunity to help. She was right in the middle of the bathing action.

I still can't believe our baby is here. It's been a fast three weeks. I know the coming weeks will fly by, as well. I'll be back soon with more updates from ~~the daycare~~ our house. Have a great week!

Social Sister

I'm back, I'm back. Can you believe I've let an 8 lb. baby interfere with my blogging? Life with a newborn might be taking a toll on me and my husband, but Libby has been enjoying all the special attention she's been getting since becoming a big sister.

I have to thank our friends and family that have invited Libby to tag along on fun outings over the last two weeks. Her Aunt Angie coordinated a trip for Libby and her cousin to see Elmo Live. Angie said they both loved the show (and the popcorn).

Libby was also lucky enough to see Dora and the Pirate Adventure play with her Mimi the next day. She loves Dora and was excited to meet the entire cast after the show.

A few days later Coop called and invited Libby to join her and her nephew Jackson for an outing to the park to feed the ducks and to the new splash park in town.

Libby could hardly hold her eyes open when she got home. She asked to skip lunch and take a nap. Trust me, I can count the number of times in her entire life that she's put herself to bed. She was worn out!

When she is home, she squeezes in time to play with her little sister. She is such a good helper and loves to retrieve pacis and diapers for me.

Georgia Kate continues to have visitors and make new friends. I have a feeling she is going to be social like her sister.

And one more fun event that we all enjoyed was the wedding of our friends, Amanda and Heath. Drew, Libby and I went to the ceremony at the church while my mother-in-law stayed with GK at our house.

Drew volunteered to let Libby and I hit the reception while he kept the baby. That was a kind gesture to let us girls go mingle for a while. It was fun seeing so many of our friends. I enjoyed wearing real clothes and having conversations with adults! ;)

By the way, Amanda was a lovely bride.

And they had quite a good time together!

And if you were worried about Libby and her social schedule...please don't! I think she's going to make the adjustment to having a new sister just fine.

Life As We Know It

The last several days around our house have been mostly spent getting used to our new life. Having a second child around the house is new and different. None of us have been on a schedule. So it will be both good and strange when Drew returns to work in a few days. Can I handle supervising two kids alone? Hmm, sure hope so!

Libby attended Vacation Bible School last week. I usually blog about how I enjoy working with the kids at VBS each year. Though I didn't volunteer this year, Libby went and had a great time! The theme was Amazing Wonders Aviation. She has been wearing these aviator goggles for the past 3 days and flying around our living room. I think she enjoyed herself.

We've had lots of visitors. Everyone wants to get their Georgia Kate fix. She seems to enjoy the company. As long as she's being held, she's happy meeting new friends.

And she keeps us entertained by being down-right cute!

Each day we get a little more used to our new normal. And friends with two or more kids, you have my respect! I am looking forward to a time that we're all back on schedule. I know it's still a long way off, but for now we'll enjoy each day. Be back soon, have a great week!

Georgia On My Mind

I'm thrilled to post that our precious daughter is here! Georgia Katherine arrived June 4 at 9:00 am. She was 7 lbs, 13 oz and 20 inches long. Here's her story:

We were slated to arrive at the hospital Tuesday, June 5 for a schedule C-section. But Monday morning around 5 am, I awoke to my water breaking. I was quite surprised since I'd never experienced it before. That was some wake up call! I woke Drew, called the doctor and we were instructed to make our way to the hospital. We were pretty sure we'd have the baby that morning, but wouldn't know for sure until we got there. After being monitored (I was actually having contractions) we got the go ahead and called our family to join us at the hospital. In less than 2 hours after arriving at the hospital, Georgia Kate was born!

My surgery went smoothly. She was born at exactly 9 am. Drew, Libby and our parents were all there to see her first bath and enjoy those adorable first moments.

Libby was such a big girl. She took all the excitement in stride. She was a little overwhelmed by everything going on, but she seemed to really like her role as Big Sister.

And to make this day even more special, Georgia Kate now shares a birthday with my long time best friend, Courtney! So cool!

We left the hospital Wednesday afternoon. We have LOTS of adjusting ahead of us. Our first night was not so restful, but we made it! Funny how you forget how little sleep anyone gets with a new born in the house. And it's also funny that when the sun rises you get over it because your tiny baby is so precious that you can't keep your hands off of her!

We are thankful for such a healthy, CUTE addition to our family. Once again God has blessed us beyond what we deserve.

We can't wait to start this journey as a family of four. Pray for us as we survive on little sleep. Also as I recover from surgery. I am still pretty sore and am ready to be back to my old self again. Thank goodness for pain meds and good friends and family.

Welcome, to the world, baby girl! Can't wait to see what our future holds.
